Downers Grove

The Green Building Demonstration Home in Downers Grove provided an unprecedented opportunity for Bill Styczynski to experience building green, both from the architect's and builder's perspective. He also wanted to incorporate many features of green construction, using the green building guidelines created by the National Home Builders Association and the Energy Star Program.

The environmentally conscious design of this home is just the beginning of what can be done to reduce the environmental impact, while satisfying the demands of a custom home. Many ways to reduce the energy footprint include building a house with a tight envelope, cellulose wall insulation, triple glazed Pella windows, Energy Star appliances and a high-efficiency Carrier Infinity HVAC system.

While using green building techniques was a priority, this is still a luxury home. The exterior features a rich blend of stone, shake and siding with a palette of green with accents of copper and stained wood.
