1st Place - 2007 Remodeling Excellence Award
This kitchen and morning room addition, designed by architect Tom Fend, and built by Mike Pudlik of Legacy Design & Construction, was recently awarded First Place by the NARI, National Association Remodeling Industry.
The entire back of the approximately twenty years old home was opened up and expanded to transform a once nondescript kitchen and dinette into a dramatic new kitchen and a larger, brighter informal dining area.
The cathedral ceiling and larger windows help to created a bright and airy kitchen. The huge island was designed for baking and as an informal dining area and has been accented by the use of stained cabinetry. The remainder of the cabinetry is painted with delicate crown moldings, furniture style legs and rich soapstone countertop, giving the kitchen a warm traditional feel.
The informal dining area includes large windows, french doors, skylights and is highlighted by built-in bookshelves and a window seat.
The renovation also included relocating the laundry from the basement to the first level, adding a butler's pantry and a mudroom with built-in lockers.
Overall, for the small area that was added to the home, the owner gained almost an entirely new first floor.
